Home in Heaven

God loves you, and He wants you to KNOW that Heaven will be your future home.

To go to Heaven when you die, you must understand the following:

The PROBLEM—all our sinners!

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:10

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

We all have a problem that must be cared for before we die, or we will suffer an eternity in Hell.  That problem is “sin.”  Sin is disobeying God.  In order to go to Heaven when you die, you must first admit to God that you are a sinner.

The PENALTY—death and Hell.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

We will all die physically, but the Bible speaks of a “second” death.

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.  This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:14, 15

First, we will die physically, but if we die in our sins, we must also die spiritually.  To die spiritually means to be separated from God for all eternity in Hell.  The Bible calls Hell a “lake of fire.”  Once in Hell, there is no escape.  Hell is everlasting punishment.

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” Matthew 25:41

The PAYMENT—Jesus Christ!

Some will ask, “If God loves us, why does He send people to Hell?”  We must understand that God does not send people to Hell—our sins condemn us to Hell.  God, in His love and mercy, has made a way that our sins can be forgiven so that we can live forever in Heaven.  That way is through Jesus Christ.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:  no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”  John 14:6

Jesus loves us so much that He left His throne in Heaven, came to earth as a man, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to pay for our sins.  Jesus died in our place.  He took our punishment upon Himself, so that if we trust Him as our Savior, our sins will be forgiven, and Heaven will be our future home.

“For he hath made him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” II Corinthians 5:21

We are not saved from our sins by doing good works, by church membership, by baptism, or by anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ!

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:  it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8, 9

“Not of works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…” Titus 3:5

The PLEA—trust Jesus and Jesus alone for Heaven!

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9, 10

Jesus rose from the dead three days after His death on the cross.  He proved by His resurrection that He was more than just a good man or another prophet.  He proved that He was who He claimed to be—the Savior of the world!

If you believe that you are a sinner, that you deserve Hell, and that Jesus died on the cross to pay for you sins, you can be saved.  You must trust Him and Him alone as your only hope for Heaven.  The word “believe” in Romans 10:9 means, “to put all your weight upon something.”  If you trust Jesus, the Bible promises,

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

There is no prayer mentioned in the Bible that God says we must pray to be saved, but we use the act of prayer to call upon Jesus.  Jesus loves you, He died for you, and He offers you salvation by trusting in Him.  Heaven is a free gift made possible by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  To receive God’s gift of salvation, trust Jesus now!

Here is a sample prayer that you can pray to receive Jesus as your Savior.  Realize that it is not mere words that save you, but trusting completely in Jesus.

“Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner.  I know that I deserve to go to Hell.  I believe that you died on the cross to pay for my sins.  I am trusting you as my only hope for Heaven.  Please forgive my sins, and give me a home in Heaven when I die.  Thank you for saving me, Jesus.  Thank you for dying for me.  Amen.”

If you trusted Jesus as your Savior, God has forgiven your debt of sin, and He promises you a future home in Heaven for eternity.  God’s gift of Heaven—once received—can never be lost or taken away.  Your salvation is secure.  This does not mean that you will never make another mistake or sin; it means that your record of sin is completely forgiven in the eyes of God!

Jesus said,

“And I give unto them eternal life:  and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”  John 10:28 29

The Bible says,

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” I John 5:11-13
